In the Contingent in Real Estate, "contingent" refers to the acceptance of an offer by the seller but with the condition that there must be specific circumstances fulfilled before the transaction can be completed. These circumstances are usually specified in the purchase contract, which safeguards both the buyer and the seller from any future risks. Financing, appraisal, and home inspection are some of the most common examples of these circumstances.
